It is wonderful to see someone deserving win an award but even sweeter when you know the person well and have insight to all they do for their community and the optical industry. We were so happy to see that  Transitions Optical, Inc. has named Complete Family Vision Care the 2012 Transitions Eyecare Practice of the Year – recognizing the staff for displaying excellence in promoting eye health and the Transitions® brand within their practice and community. Practice owner Eric White, O.D. accepted the award on behalf of the San Diego-based practice at an awards ceremony held on Jan. 29, during the 17th annual Transitions Academy in Orlando.

Eric White, O.D. happens to be my personal eye doctor and I have referred many of my friends and family to him, including my husband! I am always amazed by how much Eric fits in to his day (including reading our blog!) I think he must have cloned himself! I interviewed him soon after we started the blog as we wanted to share his “secrets to success” as a leading  optical  practitioner. I saw him  just a few days after the Transitions awards ceremony and he was all smiles and told me how much appreciated the recognition and the camaraderie.

I believe that a lot of Eric’s success  comes from his people skills that enable him to share a depth of knowledge and insight with his patients in an easy and comfortable manner. He genuinely enjoys helping his patients and finding out about their needs and he wants his patients to have the information so that they can make the best decisions for their personal eyewear.


“I’ve found that the perfect time to discuss Transitions lenses with my patients is when they are in the exam chair,” said Dr. White. “During this time, I’ll address any questions and concerns, and then explain the why behind my recommendation. I not only keep Transitions Optical point of sale in the dispensary, but also in my exam room. For example, I’ll use the Transitions lenses I’m wearing that day and show them personally how they activate using the Transitions UV Demo Unit.”

Team Effort: Of course he does not do it alone, Dr. White and his staff recommend Transitions lenses to virtually every patient who walks through the door – and especially to those using smartphones and tablets outdoors. This strategy has helped the practice achieve significant growth in 2012.
 

“It’s sunny about 340 days out of the year here in San Diego, so glare is becoming a bigger concern for patients who are using digital devices outside,” said Dr. White. “We are always talking about how Transitions lenses and anti-reflective coatings can offer UV protection and added comfort for the eyes.”
 

Plus, all members of the Complete Family Vision Care team wear Transitions lenses  so that anyone can point to their lenses and share a personal experience.
 

Spreading the Word: When I asked Eric how he felt about winning, his first words were “I am so excited that I can help other practices with their communication and optical business growth” . That is so typical Eric, he accepts the recognition but is much more excited about helping others and spreading the word! We are celebrating Eric’s win by sharing the news with our readers and looking for ways to emulate his communication skills.
