Posted 3949 days ago from opticalvisionresources.com

CHICAGO (June 24, 2013) – Prevent Blindness America, the nation’s oldest non-profit, eye health and safety organization, is launching the third annual “Most Beautiful Eyes Contest” today. The contest allows children across the United States the chance to win a $10,000 educational scholarship from Marchon Eyewear.

From now through July 31, 2013, parents of children ages zero to 17 are encouraged to enter their child in the Prevent Blindness America Most Beautiful Eyes Contest by submitting a photo to the Prevent Blindness America Facebook page at facebook.com/preventblindness. Only one contestant per Facebook account may be entered.  The contest is sponsored by Marchon Eyewear, Real Kids Shades (RKS), Eagle Eyes® Optics and Walters Golf.

From August 1-31, the public will be encouraged to place online votes, once every 24 hours, for their choice of the child with the most beautiful eyes. Each contestant who receives the most votes from each state, (void where prohibited), will advance to the second round of voting.  All state winners will receive a free pair of RKS sunglasses and a copy of the children’s book “Jacob’s Eye Patch” by Beth Kobliner Shaw and her nine-year-old son Jacob Shaw.

“We encourage parents from all over the country to enter their child’s photo today for a chance to win the $10,000 scholarship prize as well as great prizes for all of our state winners!” said Hugh R. Parry, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness America.

Once the state winners are determined, the PBA celebrity panel of judges will select the national winner.  Included on the panel are ORA-TV’s Larry King, “Fox NFL Sunday” Host Curt Menefee, actress Barbara Eden, and author and financial journalist Beth Kobliner Shaw, whose forthcoming book “Jacob’s Eye Patch” speaks to what it is like to be a child with a vision problem.

The national winner and two family members will also enjoy a weekend in Chicago to attend the Prevent Blindness America Annual Awards Banquet on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, where the $10,000 educational scholarship will be officially presented.

The 2012 winner of the Most Beautiful Eyes Contest was Ava Lloyd, age 4, of South Dakota.  The 2011 national winner was Kayla Helferich, then age 8, of South Carolina.
